Sighthound Club Open show held in Kópavogur, Iceland on Sept. 20th 2008.

I had the honour of judging puppies and Icelandics at the show. Unfortunately a very small show due to the fact it was the very first show of it's kind in Iceland and also it was held a week before the big HRFÍ international show so people didn't have alot of money to spend on this show just for fun. I had a great time in any case and thank the club for this opportunitey to spend a day looking at dogs and meeting new people. They gave me a wonderful piece of art for judging and it's of an Icelandic sheepdog on a hill barking.

Here are the few photos Rúnar managed to get in between training Klói outside around the other dogs. He didn't get photos of all the classes or dogs but I'm glad we have a few.

I started with St. Bernhard and this girl went on to the Best in Show Puppy competition and came in 3rd. Then I had a group of Dogue de Bordaeux both males and females but no photos of them. A female went on to compete in the finals.

Then I had Icelandic puppies.

Here is my best male class, one and two. The younger one was around 5 months and the other 8 months if I remember correctly.

Didn't get any photos of the best female but one of the male and female together. The little black guy was my best puppy and went on to compete for Best In Show. His head and type was just so nice.

Here is one waiting to come into the ring. I love that photo...it reminds me of how Freyja, Frigg and Hófi Sr. used to be at shows. This calm character you don't see much anymore.

Here is the best females class. We unfortunately didn't have any males to compete against. So here is the first place and second place. The first place went on to compete for Best in Show but didn't place there. There was no group competition at this show only one huge group of dogs all competing for 5 places in Best in Show.

And here was the exciting part, I got to judge Best Puppy in Show as well and enjoyed that since I wasn't expecting to do that! I'm sure someone was happy at least, this little DdB was so sweet and when she ran around the ring you could just see her happy puppylike playful nature. I just love to see puppies act like puppies in the ring. To me a 4 month old should be happy go lucky and stand for examination a bit but not like a statue. There is more than enough time for show dogs to learn how to stand still and sad when you see people get angry if the puppy wants to move an inch. Look at her in the third photo. Rúnar said she actually put her head into the trophy!
