Freyja you came to me at a time
I didn't know I'd need you
I was young, you were cute
and I just couldn't resist you

Thought I was buying a dog that day
but I know now you knew better
Didn't take me long to figure out
our souls were best together

 You wouldn't let me change my mind
or give up on the thought
That you must be a part of me
and for that I really fought

 I won and you came into my life
as if you'd always been there
We travelled lots and did so much
you followed me everywhere

 Family we lost, loved and lost again
but strength you gave to bear it
With you beside me I always had
the one with which to share it

Happy moments there were so many
and those just kept me going
I knew with you there would be more
your smile, your touch, your being

Your eyes just told me all the time
how much you really loved me
Those who met you felt your spirit
and I'm sure they could see 

We had a very special bond
I felt safe when you were near
For awhile you were my only family
and you always calmed my fear

Accidents then sickness, many times
I thought I'd almost lost you
But each time it brought us closer and
you had things still left to do

 We shared our lives with many
who felt your sweet compasion
You taught me life is to be lived
and always with great passion

Although us humans can often seem
to not be very smart
Your lessons taught me above all else
love with all your heart

Few know the time you saved my life
and few yet dare believe
It's just a dog they might have said
but my side you would never leave

I feel so lost without you now
don't know when I'll be fine
I'm convinced you had to go away
to help me one last time

 I hope my Mom felt your loving breath
as you so clearly guided
The hand that healed her that very day
had an angel's touch beside it

 Thank you Freyja for your daughter Birta and grandson Klói to comfort me at a time I wish you were here.

Birta's life started with you protecting her and ended with her protecting you. You taught her well and your love flows through her still, of that there is no doubt.

You loved those around you and it always showed through your gentle co-operation and your closeness. But more obvious was the fact that all who met you, loved YOU.

Here with Hófi, then Hófi and Frigg as a puppy, Frigg with you and Birta. Lastly your little clone Töfra Geisli learning how to investigate the grocery bags. Always the character you taught the good and the bad! LOL

Be it total strangers you met only once, family members you got to know for only a short time or those you would love deeply for years to come.

Your first greeting was always the same...heartfelt enthusiasm. Children and the elderly always had a special place in your heart as did small creatures like birds and mice.

  I hope you found Hófi, Káta and Dísa as well as all the puppies born to us during the years and are having fun together at the Rainbow Bridge.

Until we meet again, I'll love those you have left behind for me. Birta Freyja has so many of your quirks. Freyja you would be proud to know how much Klói learnt from you! He's already helping with the laundry without a single lesson other than watching how you did it!
