After seeing these two dogs in person (not seeing Hrói Grettir since he was an 8 week puppy) we couldn't help but imagine them as a wonderful combination. They really compliment each other in conformation and both have extremely sweet and smiley expressions. When I heard the breeder Laura Ford was interested in Max I got all excited. Max comes from a rare bloodline and Soley is beautiful, friendly and active in dog sports so I thought why not take a female out of this litter. Unfortunately it's terribly expensive to import dogs to Iceland and I'm sure the breeder is happier having the puppies all a little bit closer with no quarantine :-) so we were very lucky to find a wonderful co-own home in USA. So Disa's owner is Lisa Richards from Mack Hill Farms and the breeder Laura Ford also owns a little bit of this beautiful puppy! We are hoping that in future she may have a litter that we can get a puppy out of. At the moment we are just looking forward to watching her grow and develop and we hope to hear lots of news of her in her new home. The Richard's have a wonderful working farm and I am certain Dísa will have a great active life and she also has a nice Icelandic buddy named Bjarki.
Strangely enough she caught my eye quickly and I guess it might be because she looks so similar to one of my puppies who lived in Sweden. Here is a photo of Töfra Tíbrá on the left (or top if your computer shows it like that) in 1995 and Töfradís on the right! Very slight differences, Tíbrá was not pied and was short haired but I must admit that I really hadn't realized how similar they were until today (she is going on 9 weeks old) while looking at old photos. How funny is that?
For the time being I have some photos of Dísa as she grew from her breeder's website. Such a sweetheart! We didn't know she was the one that would be ours while she was growing up but at about age 6 weeks we made a decision along with her other owner Lisa based on her structure and well, to be fair she already had us pretty much hooked weeks before that. :-)
The photos below are taken when she was 8 weeks old. Look at that coat, sturdy build and beautiful expression with her in deep thought.
At the ripe old age of 10 months! :-) Beautiful girl, she really doesn't seem to care what type of weather, as you can see she is standing in the rain here. Photo by Lisa Richards her "human mom". Deeza is a born herder and such a good worker and you can follow her daily life on Lisa's Flickr page.
Here are Dísa's brother (at the far right) and sisters! What a happy bunch. :-)
