Töfra Klói Hektorsson
10.03.2007 Reg. nr. IS10765/07
Born: 13:57, 209 grams, strong dewclaws both front (singles) and back (doubles)
HD : A Free of hereditary eye diseases 09.05.2009
Father: Intuch IS Ch Hektor

Mother: Töfra Birta Freyja

Little Klói had his name picked before he was born, for some reason we knew he existed in Birta's belly. Right after the mating we started talking about the name Klói and how it hadn't been used in the breed (in Iceland or worldwide as far as we know) since the 1960's when every ISD's forefather Klói frá Sellátrum existed.Who was a beautiful typical dog, although his ears are slightly large otherwise I don't think I would have to be upset if Klói resembles his namesake!

Photo taken from the DIF database
We said if we get a little boy with good dewclaws then he will be named Klói. So as soon as he arrived and we saw his dewclaws he was "ours". Luckily his temperament is awesome as well as his build so we are definately not disappointed in our boy. We would have loved to keep his brother too! Well and all his sisters for that matter. LOL

This first photo is taken at 3 weeks of age and second one at 8 1/2 weeks

This photo is taken of his dewclaws at age 17 months, so as you can see they have moved a little bit up the leg with age but the strongest declaws are still both attached to the foot by bone and you can see the nice extra pads that I feel should be there for the dewclaws to be considered to be good.

Newborn - 1 day old
Above he can be seen with his Mother Birta and then being welcomed with a big kiss by his grandmother Freyja (she passed away on his 1 yr birthday). We are so happy that Freyja's line has now continued for the first time in Iceland she has grandpuppies. Birta is her only living offspring in Iceland. She only has one other daughter that has had offspring and she lives in Canada and has only had 5 puppies (if I remember correctly) before she was spayed, so Klói and his siblings are VERY important to us.

12 days old - 3 weeks old

Being weighed, such a laid back guy from the very start.

Rúnar giving him a little kiss just over 2 weeks old (March 27th).

With Hulda Kristín and Tryggvi Rúnar around 3 weeks old.

4 weeks old - 5 weeks old

Mamma's little baby, Klói has always had the strangest sleeping positions so I took alot of photos of him sleeping.
Below I thought I'd get a photo to show how smart this little guy is at 4 weeks old! So photo 1: Klói "sit" (only verbal cue so far, doesn't matter in what position I am he will sit when I say sit) - photo 2: a little scratch on the chin as a reward

Here is another one of his tricks he has been pretty much doing for a week or more. Shake a paw. This time he gave me both but usually he only gives me one and the other one he uses for a high five. These behaviors are not on cue yet but we'll do that soon. Believe it or not I just captured these behaviors from him as soon as he started offering them as a little wee one.

Lots of photos of Klói around 5-6 weeks old.

I tend to take evaluation photos of my puppies at 6 weeks old. So below are the photos I took of Klói at 6 weeks.
Then a photo taken at 7 weeks where you can see how much he has stretched and his proportions are totally different in one week, the back looks shorter and his angulation straighter.

A few photos taken during his 6-7 weeks of life.

Karma's new owner came once a week to visit and this time Klói decided that he would take off his socks, something that Rúnar has taught him to do. Good boy!
Taken at a garden center in Reykjavík, dogs are allowed in that store and they have a section for pets. We took four of them to get some environmental training, their sister Karma was visiting her new owner so wasn't with us for that outing.
Kolla and Klói or the "twins" as I call them, having a grand old time in a foot and mouth battle. Started out with Kolla rolling around with a ripped up piece of newspaper (of course she had ripped it, LOL) and Klói being beside her had to get in on the fun.
Klói has so many funny antics that he figures out by himself it's unbelievable I really can't wait to get him on his own with clicker in hand. He grabbed the end of the towel and dragged it over his head and rolled onto his side with it, then he stood up. I really hope he will repeat this behavior in future, I'd love to capture it with a clicker rather than a camera.

Since most believe that 8 weeks is the proper time to evaluate (Pat Hastings swears by it so who am I to disagree) I took 8 week photos as well. The funny thing is that you can clearly see a change in his structure in each of the photos, they are taken 3 days in a row. 8 weeks, the next day and two days later. To me the one taken the day after 8 weeks is the most in proportions like his 6 week photo he is just bigger and I'm stretching his head out (was just placing him on the table). It was very difficult to get good shots since I had not had the full use of my hands from the time they were about 3 weeks old so I didn't get to train them well enough to stack on their own. So the first photo he is putting his head back and lifting his front foot off the table and the second photo I haven't let go of him when the photo is snapped so he is not quite in the right position. But I do find a similarity between the 8 week and the 6 week so I am curious to know what he will look like fullgrown.

He has the strong dewclaws on front and back, his back feet seem to turn out slightly in all the photos but usually on the move it is not noticable. I have always wondered if strong dewclaws that are totally attached like extra toes would turn the feet out slightly because the "center" of the foot is moved due to the 6 toes instead of 4. In any case turned out toes are very common in the breed so we don't expect it to be a very large fault.

Here he is with his brother Kelikátur, Klói's ears are up when he is awake but still falls slightly when he has just woken up or tired. They are 8 1/2 weeks here.

Doesn't look like he will be hard to train to retrieve in future.

He is learning how to walk on lead here and he is just a real natural, such a soft temperament and loves to be with us so follows quite willingly.
