Frigg has had an eventful life and I´m so glad to say most of it has been with me. When she was a puppy I couldn´t keep another dog so she was sold to a breeder in Norway. Shortly after she and her brother Fenrisúlfur left to go to Norway we got an offer for our house and decided to try living in Norway too. We got to keep an eye on her and visit her often the first two years of her life and I always had a special place in my heart for her. She is such a naturally obedient dog with a wonderful character and temperament, so much like her mother Hófi but still quite an individual. She gets along with everyone and she has always been a pleasure to take anywhere.

Her life changed suddenly when at age two her owner who was also a breeder decided to get her hips checked and I say it was one of the best days of my life :-) You see she had been living with alot of other dogs and a couple of them used her as a punching bag and she had many scars especially in her face, so she had kept mostly to herself. Many times I did feel sorry for her but mostly I regretted not keeping her myself as a puppy because she was such a sweet dog and very healthy and beautiful as well but was not shown very much by her former owner. So when the hip score of C came in the breeder decided she was going to find a new home for her. Well, I jumped at the chance to take her back and don´t regret it for a second.

Funny thing with hip scores I later got a Swedish result for the same ex-ray and it was Free but the Norwegian result is still the official one. I also do believe that the Icelandic sheepdog should be between a B and a C anyway so to me this has never been a problem. Frigg is super agile and can turn on a dime, she can jump and run circles around other dogs, her movement has always been fantastic and judges have placed her Best of Breed even though she was completely out of coat just because they couldn´t overlook her beautiful movement.

Long story short, Frigg has been an awesome show dog, she has done obedience and agility but one of the most important things I feel she has done in her lifetime is being a therapy dog in an old age home in Oslo. That is an experience I will never forget and I think Frigg was happy during her time of visiting people, she had her special friends and they were always happy to see her too. Frigg has had the experience of traveling to a show in Denmark which included a ferry ride. She is an easy dog to have around and unfortunately for her she can be so good that she gets overlooked for the other more attention seeking dogs. Frigg is very much my dog, she follows me everywhere, always at my feet no matter what I´m doing, she even sleeps at my feet. I am certain that she is the type of dog that would die for their owner, she is so much like her mother in the sense that she reads my moods and is tuned in to what I need.

Frigg has had a few litters and has been a wonderful mother who takes an active part in raising and teaching her puppies. She has even taken care of other litters since she loves puppies, it didn´t matter if it was Valdís´ litter of German Shorthaired Pointers or Freyja´s litters. She is a born mother and it is hard to believe that she will never have another litter, I often regret not keeping one of her puppies for the health, fertility and motherly instincts but I did manage to get a granddaughter of hers so hopefully I can keep Frigg´s line going through her.

Here is Frigg on the left with Freyja on the right.

Seen above at age 10 (and out of coat)!

12 years old and fell asleep hugging her toys. :-)
