Birta is a dog who was truly blessed to be alive, born dead but brought back with mouth to mouth and alot of determination on the part of myself, the vet and herself, she has a spark and love of life that is so obvious that it´s contageous. She always seems to be smiling and happy but does have a tendency to be a bit insecure in certain situations (on lead around other dogs) and needs understanding and a kind hand. You can read more of her story on the litter page.

Birta is a Daddy´s girl and from the time we took her into our home at the age of 2 years she has been glued to him. I know she was very fond of her former owner and no doubt missed him so was quick to follow the male in the house here as well. She needed alot of special training when she arrived to fix her insecurity problem which was in my opinion due to a professional trainer physically punishing her in the classes she attended as a young dog with her former owners. It often bothers me how many trainers feel that a dog is always defying their owner if they do not obey and the first response is to show them who is boss! After seeing some strange behaviour that I thought might be due to a physical problem I actually took her to get her eyes checked. As it turns out the vet said she has suffered damage due to a lack of oxygen to the eye and her eyesight is not so good on the right side. This will have been something that has bothered her from the time she was small and of course any wise trainer might have been able to pick up on if they would have been watching her as an individual. She has learned to live with this quite well and with clicker training I have no problem teaching her.

She is the spitting image of her mother only long haired and she has many of the same character traits too, I am so happy to have her. Funny thing was that her mother Freyja always loved to have her around, from the time she came for visits as a young dog and even when she hadn´t seen her for over a year. This was very unusual for Freyja. Birta hasn´t attended shows except for once or twice because of her barking insecurity problem. She did go as a puppy and got an honour prize and I have taken her once after her training and she was pretty well behaved and got a placing and champion quality as well as placed in the Best Female competition. Our hope is that we can show her more in future but she is getting a bit old to be trying for her points now, the judges usually put up the younger dogs from the youngster and junior classes. She definitely has a near flawless structure and is very impressive with her long coat and smiling face and in all my years of breeding I can honestly say I think she is the most beautiful dog I have bred. And to think we almost didn´t have her at all.

Here are a few pictures of Birta Freyja

Above: Freyja seemed to want to hold on to Birta really tight after she lost Honey. The first hugging photo is taken the day after and the next one was taken as Birta was starting to grow a bit but as you can see it looks like dogs do feel emotion and the two of them still are extremely close. Birta couldn't drink milk from her mother so was totally bottle fed but their bond was stronger than I have seen before.

Below: Little Birta getting older but all by herself so these are her two "siblings" a black and white stuffed rabbit and a tan and brown stuffed dog. She loved those little stuffed animals and had them for years.

Some more photos taken in 2006.

A few headshots taken of Birta in September 2007 showing how much character this little girl has!
