Here is a drawing of the correct number of teeth in a dog, it is for use with the assessment I did. I have filled out this info for many dogs (besides my own) during the years and am hoping that it might help to keep an eye on how the problem of missing teeth is developing. So far I have been very lucky with my dogs but I will admit that there are a few that don't have full dentition and it is a bit disturbing to me when I hear that it's a problem that most don't think about and regard as not important. Sadly I do find it to be a growing problem that more teeth are missing than the ocasional P1 and I'm a little bit nervous about that!
I hope someone can have some use from this idea because I found it's a good thing to have in the info section of your breeding program and in a drawing or diagram form like this it makes it so much easier to glance over and see the problem without having to look through long explanations.
So since this is in Icelandic I will just explain the concept and words.
EFRI GÓMUR = top jaw
NEĐRI GÓMUR = bottom jaw
V= left H= right
SKĆRABIT = Scissor bite
UNDIRBIT= Underbite
YFIRBIT = Overbite
V megin= Left side
H megin= Right side
B megin= Both sides

So what I do is just put either an X over the tooth or teeth that are missing and a circle around which side. Or I colour in the tooth if it is easier to understand that way. Here are two examples of my own dogs. You'll notice that Birta (just like her mother) has all her teeth so the only thing I fill in is the bite and then I put the numbers 0 underneath the jaws to mean no missing teeth. At the bottom I then write the total number of teeth just so there is no misunderstanding. Quite possibly another idea would be to add the number of teeth in the parents as well behind their names, so that if you get a dog with missing teeth you can go look closer at the info on the parents to see exactly which teeth they were.
