Litter pedigree

Time of birth 15:30 - 16:00

This litter was a disappointment to me both on the scale of the defects and the homes that I picked for some of them, but on the other hand each individual has their character and I love each one of them despite their faults and I do hope that wherever they are that they are happy. It started out that Freyja became very ill a couple weeks after the mating. One of the dogs that visited us with the owners (had a female along who was registered for the show in Norway) was extremely sick the whole time she was there, very bad diahrea and vomiting. We thought at first it was the long car ride that she wasn't used to but when Freyja later got the same symptoms we knew something wasn't right. She was extremely dehydrated and sick and to save her life we put the lives of the puppies in danger. At the time we didn't know that the vet was giving us drugs that shouldn't be given to a pregnant female and especially in the first few weeks, but in any case at the time we wouldn't have objected anyway. Alas the whole pregnancy and delivery was strange and she actually ended up needing a C-section. The vet that did the C-section told us about the drug causing birth defects and he suggested that the other vet could have given her something else instead, but what's done is done and all the puppies were born alive, except for one that needed a little bit of help to breath. If we knew at the time that this little puppy had a very bad cleft palate we probably wouldn't have saved her. But that said I am so happy she is alive and well and she seems to be one of the luckiest puppies in the litter to get a loving home with people who appreciate her love of life. Freyja needed a few days to heal after the operation so luckily for her (and she seemed to know it) Frigg was more than willing to help her with the litter. The two of them helped each other out for the duration of the upbringing, it was a wonderful sight to see them together in the whelping box and I'm sure that their relationship was strengthened because of Freya's need for and ability to accept help. I vowed when this litter was gone that poor Freyja wouldn't have another litter, but fate shuffled a different hand and well....more about that later.

Mother:  Int Nord N S Is Ch Foldar Freyja

Father:  Trausti fra Thyturstadir  Longhaired, single dewclaws (the first dog I ever took a chance on and actually regret lowering my standard of double dewclaws) I used him because he was from a rarer bloodline. HD-TC (B1)

From left:  Töfra Trítla Litla, Töfra Trausti Grámúli, Töfra Tófi Traustason, Töfra Tíbrá Tandra, Töfra Tóa Traustadóttir & Töfra Tobba Traustadóttir

Töfra Trítla Litla

300 grams

My little miracle! She is such a sweetheart and despite her defects, a cleft palate (that in fact improved slightly during her development) and no dewclaws her owners are the most wonderful people and love her to bits. She was given away as a pet and I will admit that she probably has one of the best homes any of my puppies have ever gotten. She was really given a bum hand in life but her spirit and determination made me never give up on her. I grew close to her because she was bottle fed and needed all the extra attention, she couldn't be with her brothers, sisters or "cousins" very much at all because of her small size but she was one tough cookie and definitely a life worth saving. Valdís (the GSP) was her guardian angel, and whenever possible Tritla got to sleep with Valdís, it kept her body heat up and she got some much needed contact with another living being.

Töfra Trausti Grámúli

345 grams

This photo of Trausti was taken when he was a puppy (around 5-6 months), I visited him before I left Norway but I heard he needed to change homes due to personal changes in the lives of the owners but have no idea where he is now. Trausti was a fun puppy, very lively, but easy to manage and friendly but unfortunately only had one descended testicle when I last saw him. He was sold as a pet so has never been shown or health checked. He is shorthaired with one double dewclaw and one single.

Töfra Tófi Traustason

290 grams

Tófi is also quite young on this photo (6 months or so) and it was taken by me before leaving Norway. I found Tófí to be very much like his mother in his appearance but he was a bit stressed due to incorrect upbringing. He eventually also changed homes and I don't know where he is today. As far as I know no health checks have been done and no shows have been attended. Tófi is shorthaired with single dewclaws.

Töfra Tíbrá Tandra

335 grams

Another sad story for a loving puppy. This puppy was picked and taken by the owner of the father. She is seen here at a very young age of 3-4 months and was in fact the most promising in the litter. She is longhaired, double dewclaws and very good temperament. I never heard more from her after this photo was taken and attempts to reach the owner were in vain, I am not sure if she is alive, possibly she was in an accident but so far no news of her at all.

Töfra Tóa Traustadóttir

350 grams

Here is another sweet little girl, unfortunately she was more promising as a puppy than she turned out to be. Her head was so wonderful, and I would love to see how she looks today. Photos I saw in the club newsletter when she was very young showed that her tail set was bad and she was fine boned. Sadly she was diagnosed with D hips. The owner was the same owner as Lappi from Frigg´s litter. I have not received news from them despite attempts and I fear that Tóa was possibly put to sleep, if we're lucky she found a new home in Sweden.Tóa is shorthaired with one double dewclaw and one single with double nails.

Töfra Tobba Traustadóttir

345 grams

Töfra Tobba is a very lucky puppy, she lives at Greenstone Kennels in Canada.  She is owned by a very good friend of mine Valerie Sharp. Left top photo was taken in Norway when Valerie came to get Tobba and the right top photo is taken in summer 2005. Tobba's shadow in the picture is her son Bjorn. Tobba is the only one of two of Freyja's puppies who has had offspring. She had two litters resulting in 5 puppies, 2 tan and 3 black tri. Tobba had to be spayed due to a hernia after her second litter. She was only shown as a very young dog and did quite well. She is seen at age 6 years in the bottom photo, she has such a wonderful massive coat even in summer that she appears short on leg but really isn't.
